Every spring our weight clinic at Bramley gets busier — sensible, given the warmer months ahead. But the patients who see the most durable results are rarely the ones chasing a quick fix. They are the ones who build a plan they can actually live with.
Start with the basics, honestly
Before reaching for medication, it is worth being honest about sleep, alcohol, snacking patterns and movement. None of these are revolutionary, but they shape outcomes more than people give them credit for.
When medication helps
For some patients — particularly those with a BMI of 30+ or 27.5+ with weight-related conditions — prescribing alongside lifestyle support significantly improves outcomes. The newer GLP-1 medications have changed the landscape, but they are not for everyone, and they work best when paired with proper review.
- Full health review and bloods at the start
- Monthly face-to-face follow up
- Realistic, agreed targets
- Medication only where clinically appropriate
What we will not do
We will not prescribe weight-loss medication without an in-person consultation, without a baseline review, or without a plan for monitoring. Anything else is not safe, and it tends not to work.
