We are halfway through the year — a quiet, useful moment to take stock of a few simple health markers before the busier autumn arrives. None of this needs to be dramatic. A handful of small checks, looked at together, often give more clarity than people expect.
Blood pressure
Hypertension remains the most common preventable risk factor for stroke and heart disease in the UK, and it is largely silent. If you are over 40 and have not had a check in the past six months, the NHS Blood Pressure Service at Bramley is free and takes minutes.
A general blood panel
A wellness or full health blood panel gives a picture of cholesterol, blood sugar, liver and kidney function, thyroid activity and iron stores. A baseline now makes future comparisons meaningful — and often reveals quick wins like an easily corrected vitamin D or iron level.
- Lipid profile (cholesterol)
- HbA1c (3-month blood sugar average)
- Liver and kidney function
- Thyroid function
- Vitamin D and iron
Weight and movement
If weight has crept up over the spring, the summer is actually a friendlier time to address it — longer days, lighter food, more outdoor activity. Our pharmacist-led Weight Loss Clinic offers monthly, face-to-face support, with prescribing where clinically appropriate.
Small checks done in calm moments tend to be more useful than big checks done in panic.
